this could be a better situation for you!
A room is available immediately in the home where I live, in
Portola Valley. The house and location are spectacular. The room is
$775 per month, on a month-to-month basis. I lease the entire house,
live in one of the rooms, and sublet the other two rooms (for a total
of three people).
the house
The house is on/in a wooded hillside which faces northeast. On
the "logical peninsula compass" (which says that highway 101 runs
north-south), this is "east". :) The house is two stories, with two
levels on each. The entrance is on the uphill side of the house. There
is a large living room with full-height windows, overlooking a bay
view which extends from Mountain View to San Francisco, and includes
Mt. Diablo. The hillside has many trees and large plants.
the room
The room is downstairs, to the north, and shared a bathroom
with another downstairs bedroom. It's 12' x 18', with an 8'
ceiling. It can be divided in half by a folding wall (the room was
originally designed as two kids' rooms). There are two 4'8"W x 2'5"D
closets, and a large (17'W x 20"D x 29"H) desk on the north wall, with
many drawers.
The west half has an entire 12' end wall (minus the depth of a
closet) available for shelves and so on. It has a large (5'6" square)
window on the north wall, looking out onto the wooded side yard.
The east half has another window facing east on its end wall,
in addition to its closet. The window has a bay view similar to the
living room view, with more of the wooded hillside in the foreground.
the rest of the house
There is a laundry room with a washer and dryer, and storage
space. There is a lovely living room on a separate level, with a bay
view, high ceiling, ceiling-high corner windows, a balcony, and a
fireplace. There is a den beneath the living room with a similar view
and another fireplace. I've made the den a music room, and there's
lots of bookshelf space there. There is a long entryway, with a long
16'W x 2'4"D set of drawers along the wall.
There is a full-featured kitchen with a vented range island
(including an indoor barbequeue), microwave, conventional oven,
dishwasher, and a pass-through counter into the dining room. The
dining room has a deck with a bay view, great for barbequeues. There
are two refrigerators. There is a walk-in pantry, a guest bathroom,
and corner windows onto the front yard.
There is a one-fifth-acre side yard with a bay view, a
detached garage that we use for storage, and a covered parking space
adjoining.
Utilities are $100 per person, fixed, for power, garbage
collection, water, cable television, and broadband internet
access. We'd be happy to consider maid service.
the neighborhood
The house is located in the Ladera neighborhood of Portola
Valley, two miles west of the Alpine Road exit of highway 280, near
Stanford University. The neighborhood is nice, friendly, and very
pretty. The community is comprised mostly of families. There is a
grade school in the neighborhood, and many people are active in the
community association. Property values are high. There are no
streetlights.
There is a small shopping center, at the entrance to the
neighborhood, including a market, bank, gas station, restaurant, and
cafe. A 24-hour Safeway is two miles away (in Sharon
Heights). Stanford is three miles away (those with strong legs can
bike the hill okay). San Francisco is 30 miles away (a nice 35-minute
drive on 280).
you
You don't smoke! :) Obviously, the above description sounds
interesting to you. You can tolerate music and computer-science
geeking. Ideally, you're flexible, easygoing, and responsible. The
lease does not allow pets. What's most important to me is that
everyone is comfortable, gets along, and can solve problems
constructively if and when they arise.
So there you have it! Again, the room is available
immediately. If you're interested,
please send a message to me,
at housing@netjam.org. If you're not interested, please let me know
how this could be a better situation for you.
Thanks!
take care,
-C
